Home Depot Kids Workshops

This is old news to most of you, but worth the reminder!

The first Saturday of every month, your local Home Depot hosts a Kids Workshop for ages 5-12.

The Home Depot's Kids Workshops offer useful projects including the creation of toolboxes, fire trucks and mail organizers, as well as more educational projects, such as a window birdhouse, bughouse or Declaration of Independence frame kit.

The workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.

Whether you’re coming to Music Together for the first time, or you want to return with your new little ones, demos are held approximately 2 to 3 weeks prior to the next semester. Moms, Dad’s, grandparents, and nannies are welcome to attend our demos and our classes. Just come prepared to participate, and to have fun making music and dancing with your child!

Children learn how food gives their bodies energy to be active and grow strong. Through hands-on interactive games, children will learn about the different food groups and building a healthy meal. Activities include Growing up Fit and Healthy story time, playing the Fruits and Vegetables Matching Game and building a skeleton. Sponsored by GE Capital Real Estate. Movie In The Park!

Come out this Friday, September 4th, to the College Woods section of East Rock Park for the first (of hopefully many) outdoor movies in East Rock.

The inaugural movie is...*drumroll*...The Princess Bride! The movie starts at 8:00 p.m. but feel free to come early, bring a picnic basket, and enjoy dinner and a movie under the stars!

Oh yeah--did I mention that it's free? Cause it's totally free!

Music Together Registration and Free Demo

New Haven's Music Together program (aka: Musical Folk) is growing rapidly and they've added some new times to the Fall schedule. The new "semester" begins in a couple of weeks, so if you want to enroll your child, visit their website: musicalfolk.com

Lowes Build and Grow clinics

Lowes is hosting 2 awesome Build and Grow clinics. Sign up to attend and not only will your kids get to make a cool project, they get a cutesy little apron and set of goggles too. (Did I just say cutesy? Yes I did.) First one takes place tomorrow at 10 am!
Kudos Lowes. This is pretty cool.

Buck Howdy at Beardsley Zoo

Noggin Entertainer Buck Howdy has been called "the nexus of Roy Rogers, Will Rogers and Mr. Rogers," described as "a cross between Roy Rogers and Shrek," or "Gene Autry meets Dr. Demento!" And while there's a nugget of truth in each of those depictions, they miss the obvious: Buck Howdy is simply an overgrown kid with an over-sized talent for entertaining.

Buck has performed multiple times at The White House, at the Grand Ole Opry, and in hundreds of concerts at schools, state fairs and performing arts centers from coast to coast. Now he is here in Bridgeport, performing for families at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo!

You can see Buck perform at the Beardsley Zoo for free (with regular Zoo admission) on Saturdays and Sundays during July at 11 am, 1 pm and 2:30 pm.

Bow Tie Cinemas in TRUMBULL (*not* New Haven ... but not too far away) is offering a weekly free movie for kids starting tomorrow, June 23! Sounds awesome. Click on this link for more info.

UPDATE: Just to add to Fleur's earlier post, I (Pokolodi) just spoke to someone at Bow-Tie Cinemas, and there are several locations participating in the Free Kids Club Film Series. Here is a link to the list of participating theaters and the films.
